Mission Statement
Mission Statement:
Salem Mennonite commits to hear and live God’s call to be followers of Jesus Christ and to grow as a worshipping community of faith and reconciliation, where peace, joy, and healing are experienced in the church and shared with others.
Areas of Ministry:
Worshipping creates a space for connecting with God, with Jesus’ example, with one another, and with our deepest life callings. This happens through our regular worship services, singing together, prayer, sharing, music, and listening to the word of the Bible and reflections of our pastor. Significant time and planning is invested in preparing our worship services every week.
Peacemaking comprises a core focus for our congregation and denomination. We engage in peacemaking locally through involvement in our community center, supporting the integration of refugees into our community, and individual commitments such as prison ministry. We monetarily support local and international peacemaking efforts such as the Salem Interfaith Hospitality Network, and Christian Peacemaker Teams.
Discipling provides faith and spiritual formation for all who come to our congregation, especially for children and youth. Discipling happens through Sunday School, JYF, MYF, mentoring relations, library resources, and supporting Mennonite education.
Sharing Globally invests our resources in organizations like Mennonite Central Committee, Mennonite Missions Network, and Mennonite Education Agency. We believe in showing God’s love for all people through our actions as global citizens. Many members of our congregation have participated in international service.
Nurturing Congregational Life encompasses the many ways we build, support, and strengthen relationship and community, including pastoral care, care groups, potlucks, fellowship, and participation in church committees.
